Academic Peer Advising Certificate Program
The Academic Peer Advising Certificate program offers current UC Davis academic peer advisors the opportunity for continuing education & growth after successfully completing required training in home departments.
- Provides peer advisors with:
- supplemental knowledge, skills and training to more effectively advise UC Davis students
- transferable skills that can be applied to any career path or post-baccalaureate educational plans.
- Combines workshops, seminars and events offered from many different departments on campus.
Goals
The certificate series allows students to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a student advisor with a focus on professional development, leadership and diversity. This certificate series is unique from others offered on campus because of its focus on advising and the opportunity to apply this knowledge to peer advising.
Participation in the Peer Advising Certificate program will help peer advisors develop competency in the following areas (aligned with NACADA core competencies):
- Conceptual and Informational/Technological
- Relational
- Cultural Competency/Humility
- Personal/Professional Growth
Each competency area has specific student learning outcomes.
Requirements
In order to successfully receive the Academic Peer Advising Certificate, you will:
- complete a total of 6 requirements:
- 2 Conceptual and Informational/Technological credits
- 1 Relational credit
- 1 Cultural Competency/Humility credit
- 1 Personal/Professional Growth credit
- 1 Elective credit (from competency area of your choice);
- submit responses to prompts after attending each workshop, and after completing the credit requirements for all categories, students will write a 2-3 page reflection paper to apply what they have learned to their work as peer advisors and to their future careers; and
- complete the program within a single academic year.

Certificate Completion
Peer advisors who choose to participate do not receive academic units or monetary compensation for completion of the peer certificate. This is an opportunity for personal growth and development, supplemental to the peer advisor role. Peer advisors who complete the requirements of the certificate, will receive a signed certificate from the Undergraduate Education Office of Academic Advising.
