Bio

Pamela Pretell is a Success Advisor (Advising Training and Development Lead and Retention Specialist) in Undergraduate Education at UC Davis. She oversees the development and implementation of training and community engagement for academic advisors and builds collaborative partnerships to support student success and retention at UC Davis. She is a contact for questions and conversation about advisor professional development and equitable advising practices.

Pretell has served as an advisor in various units and departments across campus over the past nine years including the University Honors Program in Undergraduate Education, Hart Interdisciplinary Programs and the arts administrative group. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Native American Studies from UC Davis and now works towards a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of New Mexico.

Within the UC Davis advising community, Pretell served as co-chair of the Social Justice Advising Committee from 2018 to 2021 and supported efforts to enact equitable hiring practices in advising and provide educational opportunities for the advising community related to social justice and advising. In 2022, she led the development of the UC Davis Academic Advisor Training and Onboarding Resource in collaboration with fellow advisors to support equity in new advisor training and onboarding. Pretell has served on the Advising for Equity Administrative Advisory Committee since its inception in 2021 and supported a variety of efforts related to advancing equity in advising structures and approaches. 

 Outside of her work in the UC Davis advising community, Pretell is committed to supporting the success of students of historically minoritized identities and collaborated on several projects to support students’ development from a culturally responsive lens.
