AAMP Involvement Pathways
We recognize that mentorship isn’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why AAMP at UC Davis offers a variety of pathways to help advisors connect, grow, and support one another. Explore the options below and choose what fits best for your goals, availability, and style of engagement.
Please note that these pathways are not mutually exclusive.
- Pathway 1: Explore Mentorship
- Pathway 2: Connect with an Advising Ambassador
- Pathway 3: Attend Community Programming
- Pathway 4: Serve on the Planning Committee

Pathway 1: Explore Mentorship
What it is:
- We match 1 mentor with 1-2 mentees based on shared goals, interests, or experiences. These pairs or small groups may follow a lightly structured reflection guide aligned with advising competencies.
What to expect:
- For Mentees: Personalized support and tailored guidance from an experienced advisor who strives to understand your goals and challenges
- For Mentors: A meaningful opportunity to give back, support newer advising professionals, and reflect on your own growth through mentorship
- Regular check-ins and meaningful conversations
- Flexibility: meet one-on-one and/or as a small group
Best for:
- Mentees: New advising professionals
- Mentors: Mid-level and seasoned advisors who are ready to give back through mentorship
Format:
- Mentor and mentee applications start and are promoted at the beginning of the academic year
- Mentee application remains open continually (advisors who are interested in becoming mentees past the initial application period may join/match with a mentorship pod)
Time Commitment (per quarter):
- Flexible based on mutual agreement between mentor and mentee(s)
- Mentors: ~7-8 hours per quarter (includes mentorship meetings, community programming, committee meetings)
- Mentees: ~5-6 hours per quarter (includes mentorship meetings, community programming)
Pathway 2: Connect with an Advising Ambassador
What it is:
- UC Davis staff can browse AAMP Advising Ambassador profiles and reach out to individuals based on areas of interest or expertise. This allows for informal, as-needed conversations with as many advisors as they’d like.
What to expect:
- Flexible, informal support
- A chance to connect with multiple advisors for specific topics
- Easy to schedule, low commitment
- Great for exploring different advising roles, philosophies, and experiences
Best for:
- Newer or mid-level advisors or advising-adjacent staff seeking guidance on niche topics, exploring new roles, or looking to expand their network across campus
- Advising Ambassadors: Seasoned advisors who want to give back and support newer advisors but may not have bandwidth to serve as a mentor at this time
Pathway 3: Attend Community Programming
What it is:
- Open events for all advisors at UC Davis, hosted by the AAMP planning committee
- These quarterly sessions focus on community-building, professional development, and timely topics in advising
What to expect:
- Community building and networking across colleges and departments
- Skill-building and reflection opportunities
- No mentorship commitment required
Best for:
- Anyone in the advising community—whether you’re new, seasoned, or somewhere in between
Pathway 4: Serve on the Planning Committee
What it is:
- A collaborative team of advisors who plan community programming, strategize recruitment and engagement efforts, and ensure AAMP remains responsive to the needs of the UC Davis advising community
What to expect:
- 1-hour monthly committee meetings
- Involvement in organizing community programming, event planning, or completing subcommittee tasks
Best for:
- Advisors who enjoy event planning or behind-the-scenes program work
- Those interested in leadership experience or campus-wide engagement
- Anyone looking for a flexible, collaborative way to contribute to the advising community
- Note: No prior committee experience needed—just enthusiasm, a willingness to contribute ideas, and commitment to attend AAMP programming. Open to all AAMP members, including both mentors, mentees, and advising ambassadors
