Getting Connected
The decentralized nature of UC Davis’ advising structure can make it challenging for advisors to connect with colleagues and stay up-to-date on important information. Here are a few ways you can get connected to the advising community.
- Nuts & Bolts Workshop: It is highly recommended that new advisors register for the “Nuts & Bolts: Resources for Academic Advisors” workshop as early as possible. This two part training workshop is intended to give new advisors an introduction to the wide range of resources and services UC Davis has to offer. It is also an opportunity to connect with fellow advisors from across campus. *Core requirement for the Level One Academic Advisor Certificate Series.
- Subscribe: The following list serves provide important advising related information. Consider subscribing to stay up-to-date on policy changes, events, professional development opportunities and much more.

Professional Development
- UC Davis Academic Advisor Certificate (Level One): The Office of Academic Advising and ATPD have developed a campus wide training series designed for advisors at various levels of experience. The Level One series includes an introduction to critical campus resources and technology, as well as content that covers fundamental advising concepts.
- Coffee Talks: Coffee Talks are offered quarterly and focus on a variety of specific topics relevant to advising and student affairs. These talks are informal and give advisors an opportunity to come together and discuss current issues.
- Advising Conferences: There are a number of on and off-campus advising conferences held throughout the year. These conferences are a great opportunity to discuss innovative ideas, share best practices, and connect with colleagues across the campus, the state, or the country. Depending on the level of support from their department, advisors are encouraged to attend one or more conferences each year. For additional support, the Office of Academic Advising offers a program to help with funding travel and expenses. See the application form for details. Below are a few examples of the local and regional conferences:
